Fun filled affairs and hilltop celebrations

Although we may be moving into the autumn months, we’re not ready to let go of the summer just yet. With food and drink award celebrations, plenty of weddings, hen dos and birthday parties, and even tea and cake enjoyed on a hilltop, it’s fair to say The Chipping Norton Tea Set summer has been a good one!

Bags of fun

We had quite a baking session prepping for the annual Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards, whipping up 110 cupcakes for the goodie bags for guests. To make things interesting, we baked a range of scrumptious flavours including the rich and intense Chocolate and Guinness cupcake, and the light and refreshing Lemon and Poppy Seed cupcake. Goodie bags filled with foodie treats – sounds divine doesn’t it?! If only every goodie bag were like that!

A day to remember

We haven’t just been dishing out the sweet stuff though; our July weddings were full of sweet and savoury platters and fine afternoon tea. Our first wedding in July was a vibrant fun filled affair at Nether Winchendon House, near Thame. The newlyweds, Alex & Max, adorned their venue with sunflowers and royal blue table runners – which set a beautiful backdrop for guests to enjoy their tea.

Kenny and Bethany’s big day on 19th July in Cirencester was styled in a similarly impressive fashion. The couple chose an old-fashioned big top style marquee with long trestle tables and lots of bunting, giving their day a real village fete feel. There were even bride and groom scarecrows on the veg patch - talk about fab country fete wedding inspiration!

Fusion cuisine

From fun filled affairs to a more simplistic but still very beautiful wedding day for Tom and Raji in Leamington Spa. Our vintage afternoon tea included red velvet wedding cupcakes and homemade samosas – OK we can’t take credit for the latter, they were brought in by one of the guests! We’ve got to admit, one or two may have made their way home with us, they were delicious.

A right old celebration

Of course, when we weren’t catering for weddings, we were busy with leaving parties, hen dos and birthday parties. A surprise vintage afternoon tea for a local lady’s 80th birthday has to be one of our most memorable events in July, along with Stephen’s 50th birthday celebrations on a hill! Stephen’s special birthday was complete with big top style tents decorated with growing plants such as buddleias and lavender, cakes baked by friends and family and, best of all, a full silver band.

From press to politics…

With all our hard work, it’s always nice to get some recognition in the local press. Our most recent feature was in The Oxford Mail - thanks to Experience Chipping Norton, an organisation set up to promote the town, and Read Publicity.

July also had in store some slightly different events for The Chipping Norton Tea Set. Victoria did her second stint on the BBC radio Oxford’s Kat Orman Show, chatting about current affairs, and some tea stuff; and the team also provided canapés for the local town council after their Civic Ceremony on Sunday 20th. In fact, our canapés were even enjoyed by a local gentleman who held a gathering to thank people for their support during a political campaign. Proof that The Chipping Norton Tea Set goods are perfect for any kind of event or celebration!
